The Jewish Community Center Sonoma County, in contract with Listening for a Change, completed interviewing, videotaping, and editing of 60 Jewish individuals who lost their homes in the firestorms of October 2017 or were Jewish leaders in the Sonoma communities. One person from the Santa Rosa Coffee Park area died.
The following video represents voices from all participating interviewees. It is important to hear, empathize and learn so that we can face our future and the effect of climate change on us all. We ask the question: What can we be doing to make our lives safer and make a difference to stop the effects of climate change?
The second video on this page represents interviewees’ thoughts shared about what can be done to be safe and prepared for emergencies. Our lead narrator, Dr. Joshua Weil, was head of Kaiser Permanente’s emergency room and helped make the decision to evacuate the hospital while his wife, daughter, and dogs were fleeing their burning home not far away in Larkfield, a suburb of Santa Rosa. Dr. Weil has a background in emergency preparedness and contributes intellectual and learned wisdom.
